Death.FM Players

A family of players for Death.FM, an internet radio station playing death metal, and for SomaFM's Metal Detector channel. Windows, Android and Chromecast, all talking to the same stream and now-playing data.

The pieces

• Blastbeat PlayerNative Windows tray player with Chromecast, Last.fm and play history.
  • C# / .NET 10
  • Windows
• Death.FM AndroidNative Android app with lock-screen controls, Android Auto and Chromecast.
  • Kotlin
  • Compose
  • Media3
• Cast ReceiverA custom Chromecast receiver with a real live elapsed timer and its own branding.
  • Cloudflare Workers
  • Durable Objects

How they fit together

• The Windows and Android apps cast to the custom receiver rather than Google's default one, so every sender gets the same branding and a proper live timer.
• Last.fm scrobbling is handled by whichever device is actually playing. The receiver runs its own client, so scrobbling carries on if the phone is put away.
• Earlier generations are kept for reference: a Windows tray wrapper around the Death.FM web player, and a SomaFM-only tray app. Blastbeat Player replaced both and imports their settings.
